📖 Excerpt from The Firstborn’s Journey: A Legacy of Grace 📖
The house had never felt this quiet before. Grace sat at the edge of her bed, the dim light of the bedside lamp casting soft shadows along the walls. She could hear James typing away in his home office, the faint clicks of his keyboard blending with the rhythmic ticking of the clock.
Her heart ached—not just from the fatigue that seemed to settle deeper into her bones each day, but from the growing distance between them. The weight of her diagnosis pressed on her chest, heavier than the illness itself.
She had always known James as a man of faith, a man who found comfort in prayer even when words failed him. But lately, it felt as though faith was something they practiced separately, not together. She longed for the days when he would sit beside her, Bible in hand, his voice steady as he read passages that reminded them of God’s unfailing presence.
But life had become rushed, filled with obligations, and now… time suddenly seemed like a luxury they couldn’t afford.
She glanced at her journal—the one she had started writing in when she first felt the shift inside her body. Opening it, she ran her fingers over the words she had penned just last night:
"Teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts to wisdom." – Psalm 90:12
A tear slipped down her cheek.
She needed to talk to James. Needed him to see her—to truly see her—before it was too late.
But would he listen? Would he understand that this wasn’t just about her illness? That it was about the moments they were losing, the ones they still had a chance to reclaim?
Taking a deep breath, she closed the journal and stood.
It was time to speak.
